The Southeast Missouri State baseball team has surely taken a huge swing in their season so far this year. In the 2012 season, the redhawks have had several wins, including their 26-7 victory against IPFW.

After a home run by Derek Gibson at the game against MidContinent University, the team lines up to congratulate him and celebrate.

In the beginning of the season, the redhawk pitchers had been consistently striking out lots of batters according to Coach Mark Hogan.     Towards the end of February, Shae Simmons and Trenton Moses, two redhawk players, were named co Adidas OVC players of the week in their conference. Trenton Moses was also named a candidate for the senior class award.

With such a strong start to the season, the team had high expectations. Throughout the duration of the season, however, they have begun to struggle. “We’ve had a little bit of some tough luck lately,” player John Logan Zink said, “and we’ve been faced with a lot of really good pitchers.”

Despite their struggles, Zink as well as the rest of the team have high hopes for the rest of the season. “We are only in the 2nd week of conferences, and we have plenty of time to turn around and pull things together,” Zink said. Many fans are excited to see how the rest of the season pans out.
